Round 14 vs Croydon (Home)

What a day last Saturday was! 3 complete different games with 2 wins and a draw for the Eagles. A perfect preview for everyone there of September football!!

This week we are still at the Eagles nest, but this time we take on the pooches from South Croydon. Just like last week, all 3 teams that sits in the top half of the ladder so expect a ripping day of football!

Seniors (2.10pm)

Nine scoring shots for us to Norwoods five in the first quarter last week saw us only manage to get the pill through the big sticks on one occasion, whereas the Norsemen were able to split them twice to give them a lead of the barest of margins at the end of the first quarter. This inaccurate kicking set the trend for the next two quarters as Norwoods lead never blew out any more than 7 points at any of the breaks. After trailing all day, the Eagles managed 5 goals to 2 in the last quarter to register a 15 point win.

Getting off to a good start is the key this week against the Bulldogs as they sit 2 games outside the top five, but also the same margin to second place.

The Seniors cannot afford to miss out on the 4 points this weekend. With 4 games remaining after this week containing 2 games against teams in the top 5 and a match with hot and cold rivals Noble Park, a loss tomorrow could be the difference between finals and being able to attend preseason cricket training.

Reserves (11.55am)

A five goal first quarter was the trend in a 20 goal game that saw us consolidate top spot with a 105 point win over Norwood.

The Bulldogs a re sitting 3rd and are by means pushovers. Registering some solid wins themselves, they can’t be taken lightly.

Another great start will be difficult for the doggies to get back into the game.

If we stick to our structures and plans, it will be another 4 points for Breeny’s boys.

Colts (9.40am)

We trailed most of the game last week against top side, Norwood. We kicked 3.5 in the last quarter to only 1 behind and it was that 1 behind that leveled the scores and that was how the game would end. Shared points between 1st and 2nd on the ladder.

With the splitting of the points last week, this made South Croydon the beneficiary as their win last week leap frogged both Norwood and us to sit on the top of the ladder. So 2 weeks in a row, we take on the ladder leaders. A win will see us sit in 2nd place and momentum for finals!

Go Eagles!!
